Grief comes to those who loved so dearly
Who held and embraced their love so nearly
Of all the moments of life to share
It's the holidays when we truly care
To have them close for one more embrace
To raise a toast and see a smile on their face.
To sing a song, give a gift, laugh a laugh, wish a wish,
Grief comes to all whose hope seems to vanish.
But amidst all the pain, when life must go on
When our carols we'll sing and our gay apparel we'll don,
We can know that our grief is like a warm fire
Comforting us and our heart's true desire.
For if love will be love and hate will be hate
Grief will never land on the hate-lovers plate.
Poor souls, they never knew what it meant to love
So grief comes to us as a gift from above.
